Stephen Shortt has created a
major series of works about his personal experience of seemingly
interminable conflict in Northern Ireland entitled "On Britain's
Doorstep". This expansive body of work is an objective and penetrating
look at Ireland's "Troubles" executed with considerable aesthetic
proficiency, it is expressive and emotive while simultaneously remaining
accessible and understandable to a greater audience. This exhibition has
toured Canada and the U.S. with presentations at such notable venues as
Mercer Union, Toronto; Vu, Quebec; and C.E.P.A. Buffalo, New York; among
many others. "On Britain's Doorstep" is a body of work particularly
admirable for its non-proselytising and open minded approach, as well as
its consummately skilful execution, presenting the viewer with a
compellingly clear articulation of all sides of this complex political
situation.
